Rinspeed will present its new sQuba, the worlds first diving car, at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6-16). The car is not only able to drive on roads autonomously with a push of a button (thus without a driver, passenger or further assistance), but can also transform into an amphibious vehicle which can be submerged in water up to 10 meters (33 feet). An electric motor with powerful torque drives the rear wheels, while the propulsion on the water is ensured by two propellers in the stern and two powerful jet drives in the bow propelling the vehicle under water while diving. When underwater, the driver and passenger are enclosed in the vehicle thanks to light weight body components made of futuristic Carbon Nano Tubes and are supplied with fresh breathing air by the self-contained on-board system.

What Is A Hard Water Filter & Do You Need This Type of Filtration For Your Home?
A hard water filter is a good thing to have if you live in an area with hard water. This type of H20 has high levels of metals, salts, and minerals such as magnesium or calcium. The United States Geological Survey found that only 15% of American homes have what is considered soft H20 - the rest have this more mineralized substance. Drinking it does not appear to pose any health risk; in fact, there is some evidence that the higher levels of minerals it contains makes it beneficial to drink.
Yet many people install hard water filters in their homes, and the reasons are usually more convenience-related than health-related. Overly mineralized H20 builds up mineral deposits on faucets, sinks, tea kettles, and pipes - these deposits clog up faucets and are difficult to remove.
It is also harder to wash clothing, dishes, or yourself in excessively mineralized H20 because soap does not form much of a lather and not all the soap is washed away, usually leaving a film behind. Hair often becomes coarser and skin dryer and itchy when it is not washed in soft H20. All of these reasons make many people install a hard water filter in their homes.
If you are not sure whether you need one of these devices, there is a simple test you can try in order to determine this. Take an ordinary bar of soap, hold it under the faucet, and try to work up a good lather. If you do not produce much foam and lather, you probably do have excessive minerals and metals flowing out of your faucet.
Hard water filters (also called "water softeners") essentially work a chemical change on H20. The active ingredient is sodium chloride (table salt). This salt activates beads made of ion exchange resin inside the filter, and the resin replaces the hard minerals in H20 with softer minerals such as sodium or potassium. The end product is a soft H20 that rinses away without leaving residue, is gentle on hair and nails, and doesn't leave annoying mineral deposits on faucets and pots.
A hard water filter by itself only deals with the mineral content of H20 - it does not remove any bacteria or chemicals that might have slipped into the drinking supply. These contaminants are more prevalent than you might think - public water is "treated" but this process usually involves simply running H20 through a sediment filter and adding some chlorine, which is a chemical that does not kill off all microbes and is linked to cancer. What you end up drinking usually contains chlorine, lead, sediment particles, pathogens, and other unsafe and undesirable contaminants.
Because of this, a hard water filter needs to be used in conjunction with an H20 purifying system that removes all traces of chemicals and bacteria so that what you drink is completely safe. Since the purpose of a hard water filter is only to make sure that H20 creates good lather and doesn't leave any deposits behind, you may be drinking and bathing in unsafe water if you only use this type of purifier system.
Hard water filters can be a valuable addition to your in-home H20 treatment system. Once you have ensured that your drinking supply has been cleaned of all contaminants, you can then run it through a hard water filter in order to have soft water that doesn't leave deposits on your pots, clog up your sinks, or make it difficult to wash your hair and skin.
Using a Carbon Water Filter to Avoid Harmful City Water Chemicals
The side effects of drinking unfiltered water are not good. There are too many contaminates in it and is loaded with chemicals that are not good for the body. The hazards are so many; most people just do not realize it. Granted a lot of people do drink bottled water now days, but some do not want to fill up the land fills. A carbon water filter can get rid of so many impurities making if safer to drink.
Most tap water is loaded with the chemicals such as iron, chlorine, sulfide and iron and not filtered can do great harm to the body. Many diseases can come about using unfiltered water. It is quite scary to hear about all of the effects it has. Many of the water filters today eliminate those poisons, giving you clear, good tasting water.
Carbon has been known for hundreds of years to filter water and the air. It is said to be the oldest way to filter water for drinking. Some people even say using unfiltered water to shower or to wash clothes will harm the skin and deeper. Filters used at home have either granular activated carbon, or even better the powdered block carbon, having more carbon. The more the carbon, the better the filter will be.
Carbon filtering is a way that employs a piece of carbon, activated to remove the impurities and contaminates. The bacteria are then soaked up and leave good tasting water. Volatile organic compounds and sediment is mostly gone, if not all gone. And the chlorine that is so prevalent in tap water is almost non existent.
Drinking water from the tap without a filter may cause people to get sick. Carbon has been used for many years. It probably started with the Romans as they loved their baths. Unfiltered water can do a lot of damage even using it as bath water or doing laundry. It is known that drinking unfiltered water, in time, place people at high risk for so many different illnesses.
Every household should have a water filtering system, if only for drinking the tap water. Too much fluoride in the water will turn young childrens teeth a yellowish brown color. The teeth are healthy but the discoloration is noticeable and a lot of the children and parents do not like it. Even using filtered water at the office is good. People know they are drinking good safe water.
Water filters are not expensive, not unless you put them all over your house, then it adds up. But it would be worth that cost to get good tasting and clear water. And they are extremely easy to install, when buying one or two or ten, be sure to read the instructions and you should not have any problems.
A carbon water filter is the way to go for the home. It saves your health not to mention it tastes wonderful. Everyone will thank you once they get used to the fresh clean water that comes out of the tap.
Trihalomethane Shower Filters and Drinking Water Filters That Remove THM & THMs
The Threat of Trihalomethane (THM) It's been proven that all public water systems contain some level of at least one unhealthy chemical. But in study after study, it turns out that the norm is for your city or municipal water to have dozens of dangerous contaminants. Society literally adds hundreds and hundreds of dangerous chemicals every year and many of them make their way into the water we use to drink, shower or bathe in, and cook with. Current EPA regulations only require testing for about 90 of those chemicals.
One geological study in Southern California found that the groundwater contained traces of almost 40 industrial chemicals and 20 pesticides. The reality is that you'd be lucky to have just one chemical floating in your water. Most people are aware of the hazards of chlorine, but a chemical called trihalomethane (THM) is making news because studies have shown that it may be more dangerous than chlorine. Recently, the Frankford Water Department was notified by the Delaware Division of Public Health that their water exceeds the Environmental Protection Agency's maximum allowable level of THM. The residents were upset and wondering what you probably are. What is it and how do I get rid of it.
How THM Is Created Trihalomethanes are caused when a disinfectant, mostly commonly chlorine, interacts with bacteria or other organic material. These other substances can include hair follicles, skin particles and also substances like sweat. The resulting reaction creates trihalomethane, a very powerful carcinogenic threat that ends up coming out of your sinks and shower heads. Chloroform is an example of this harmful toxin. Exposure means putting yourself at risk for serious health conditions like asthma and cancer. THMs can build-up in the body and women with breast cancer have shown a higher level of these chlorinated compounds (or organo-chlorines) in their tissue.
A Water Filtration Solution Fortunately, advances in water filtration technology have made it possible to filter out THM and render your water safe. The US EPA recognizes Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) as the best available technology for filtering out the dangerous chemical, along with other Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs) and synthetic chemicals.
The best home water filtration methods for removing THM and other chemicals are a whole house water filter, shower filter and drinking water filter. In fact, these are the exact three products that Dr. Mehment Oz said were vitally important to your health on his show. Dr. Oz noted that the Rhino whole house water filtration system was the most effective but also the most expensive. Most interestingly was his emphasis on the importance of the AQ-4105 shower filter. In the next paragraph, I'll discuss why a shower filter system is so important for purifying water contaminated with THM and other pollutants.
What Type of Water Filter Products to Consider When taking action to eliminate the threat of THMs and other synthetic and organic chemicals, you need to treat either your whole house or your faucets and showerheads. A quality whole house water filter will offer the best filtration effectiveness, but does not come cheap. The next best solution is a point-of-use drinking water filter and shower filter. While filtering the water coming from your sink is incredibly important, research has shown that your shower may pose a greater threat. In a hot shower, the pores of your skin open up and cause the absorption rate of chlorine and chemicals like Trihalomethane to accelerate. The alarming reality is that the steam you inhale can have concentrations of THMs that are several times higher than unheated tap water.
Since THM is only one chemical, it doesn't make sense to only have one filter media that specializes in its removal. Therefore, look for two stage or multi-stage water filtration systems for both your shower and sink. A dual filter that combines KDF and carbon media is widely recognized as the most effective filter technology for showering.
For your drinking water, a carbon filter is also a necessity. However, some companies are taking the approach "better safe than sorry" and no longer use KDF-55 in water filters for drinking. The reason is that KDF uses a natural copper / zinc mineral media and consuming high levels of copper is not good for the brain. Instead, look for a drinking filter like the counter top AQ-4000 that uses multi-stage filtration and combines the most effective technologies currently available: mechanical filtration (filtration down to.5 microns), adsorption (contaminants bond chemically or physically to the surface of the GAC filter medium) and ion exchange (replaces harmful lead ions with healthful potassium ions).
Fortunately, dual stage shower filters and multi-stage water filters are relatively inexpensive and easy to use. For less than 50 cents a day you can enjoy the convenience and safety of both types of filters! And the peace of mind that you are inhaling or drinking water that is safe and free or virtually free of organic and inorganic contaminants. Another reason for an under counter or countertop drinking water filter is that THMs are gases and can become airborne in the steam from cooking with water. Just like with a shower, we inhale the chemicals and they enter our blood stream at a more rapid rate than if we drank the water.
Conclusion In recent years, the threat of chlorine and studies showing its health consequences was enough motivate many people to purchase a chlorine shower filter and drinking water filter. However, Trihalomethane and other contaminants are causing the media and health experts to tout them as a necessity for most everyone. While some shower and water filters only utilize one filter media, a high quality two stage shower water filter and multi-stage water filtration system offer the best overall protection for price, quality and performance.
Just remember, when searching for a water filter, a single carbon filter isn't enough. There are literally thousands of cancer-causing chemicals that may be in your water. Trichloroethylene (TCE), used for cleaning metal parts, is another hard to pronounce chemical that finds its way into water supplies. The link between long-term exposure to unhealthy carcinogenic substances in your water is only getting stronger, so look into purchasing a whole house filter or shower and drinking water filters. They are very inexpensive compared to the potentially devastating health problems and costs of using unfiltered water.

Are you someone who finds peace in making pets out of fish? Nowadays fish tank filters are rendered in a wide variety of choices to make the aquarium clean all the time. As you select the right fish tank filter you can base your decision on the aquarium size and the fish number that you intend to take care of.
For some, it is helpful to use more than one kind of filter to achieve the most ideal water conditions. Here are some of the most important fish tank filters that you may want to consider getting for your aquarium:
Air Driven Filters
These are tiny and affordable box like filters that are perfect for raising very tiny fish in hospital aquariums. They are potent enough to maintain pleasant water conditions and gentle enough to make the inhabitants of the fish tank free from danger.
Undergravel Fish Tank Filter
Just like what it is called, these are situated right under the layer of the aquarium's gravel. It moves water through the gravel to be able to come up with favorable conditions for a successful biological filtration.
Internal Power
This is the type of filter that is most widely used since they are very easy to use and can render an excellent chemical and mechanical filtration process. They are made to be hung at the back of the aquarium and it is ideal for any tank size which houses the tropical fishes.
Canister Filter
This type provides the most excellent biological filtration that is perfect to be used for the larger types of aquariums that house lots of fish. The body of the filter is bigger than most of the power filters on the market and perfect to be used even for the saltwater and freshwater aquariums alike.
Dry and Wet Filter
These filters project the ultimate performance when it comes to biological filtration. They are ideal for saltwater fish alone and any other type of large aquarium that requires effective and resourceful biological filtration.
Depending on the type of aquarium and fish you have, you should be able to choose carefully the right filter that you think would make your tank and its inhabitants in a healthy and stable condition all the time. You are free to also ask your local fish tank guide if you are still unsure of what to get.
Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Paint - Felled Tree at Castaway Island Park - Gary Garrett Painting Demo On YouTube.
Please click on "WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY". This was an experiment with Winson & Newton's Artisan water mixable oil paints on an 8x10 canvas panel in my studio. They are real oils using a saffron-linseed oil base. They stay wet while painting, so you can really manipulate the image. on this one, I used rolled paper "smear sticks" like I use in oil pastels and a utility knife blade to scrape through the paint for really fine detail. The paint stays wet for 1-2 days, dry to the touch (still a little smearable) in 3-4 days, and varnishable in a few weeks. Also, they do NOT have the traditional oil paint smell which my wife is grateful for... actually no smell at all unless you put you nose smack up to it. I purchased these at my local Hobby Lobby store with a 40% off internet coupon, so the cost of the 10-tube set was around . I have now found these paints sold in larger tube sizes can purchase individual colors. Natural Ways to Make Your Backyard Water Pond More Clean
No doubt keeping your pond looking clean and beautiful is a priority, and one important thing you can do to keep it looking great is to add a filter to your pond. While pond filters are very effective and can keep your pond look and smelling great, there are some natural things you can do to your pond that will help your filter in keeping your pond clean. Why not let nature take over and do some of the hard work for you and your filter to keep your pond at its best.
Add Water Lilies - One thing that you can do to help keep your pond looking great without putting all the pressure on your pond filters is to add water lilies to your pond. Although water lilies are well known for being so amazingly beautiful, believe it or not, they also are great for keeping your pond clean as well. Water lilies will easily spread out across your pond, and if you keep at least half of your pond covered with water lilies, or another similar plant, it can help to get rid of that funky green water that is such an eyesore.
Use Other Water Plants In Your Pond - Another great thing that you can do to help your pond filters keep your pond looking great is to use other water plants in your pond as well. Not only will these water plans make your pond look gorgeous, but they will also help filter your pond naturally as well. Having plants in your pond will help to get rid of organic waste materials that may be making your pond look and smell bad. It is best if you use both submerged and floating plants for the best effects.
Install a Waterfall - Installing a waterfall into your pond will not only look amazing, but it will also aid your pond filters in keeping your pond clean as well. A waterfall will keep the water moving in your pond, which will increase the amount of oxygen in the water, transport other materials, and keep your pond from getting stagnant. This will help promote the beneficial bacteria that are so important to keeping your pond at its' best.
You may want to consider pond salt which assists in fish health by discouraging parasites and helping the fish maintain their shiny coat.
While these natural things can definitely help you keep your pond clean, they should be used to help your filter, not as a single method of filtering your pond. Pond filters are designed to filter out toxic wastes that can be harmful to your pond and any fish you may have in it. Purchasing a great filter is necessary to keeping up your pond; however, you can make things a little easier on your filter if you use natural methods of filtration such as water plants, water lilies, and a waterfall as well.
When it comes to home water filters you have much to choose from. Most of us know that filters for home use are important for our health. Filters for the shower provide both health and cosmetic benefits. Then there are whole house water filters for home use that will block nearly every chemical and contaminant that could be in your water. So, how do you choose? Hopefully, we can help.
Many companies provide home water filters to purify the tap. The least effective are the pitcher types which only block about 75% of the chlorine and 93% of the lead. Other contaminants, such as chemicals and cysts are not removed by even the best pitchers.
The best filters for home drinking water remove 99% of chlorine, lead, cysts and cancer causing chemicals. Ask to see the product performance data sheet before you buy. The most expensive ones are often no better than the more reasonably priced ones, so you want to look at performance, rather than price.
Water filters for the shower are relatively new. Only a few companies provide a good quality version. Like other water filters for home use, the main target should be protection from chlorine. It causes damage to the skin and hair, but, even worse, chlorine vapors are toxic.
Highly concentrated chlorine gas is used as a chemical weapon, because it irritates the respiratory system. Some people are allergic to chlorine. Others are simply sensitive to the smell. Studies indicate that showering in chlorinated water may cause an increased risk of certain types of cancer. Other chemical vapors are also released during a shower.
You can get home water filters designed specifically for the shower or you can get whole house filters, but just make sure, once again, to compare the effectiveness. Of the five leading filters for home showers, two only block about 50% of the chlorine and do nothing to remove lead, copper or balance pH and mineral content. The three best filters for the shower vary greatly in price, but they do the same basic job. Why pay more if you don't have to?
There are even fewer selections for whole house water filters. The most expensive and least effective against chlorine is reverse osmosis. Companies that sell reverse osmosis filters for home use claim that they are providing the latest technology. In truth, the technology is outdated and does not reflect the latest research concerning healthful drinking water.
Water filters for home that use reverse osmosis systems produce de-mineralized water Even if you have a really high mineral content or a problem with "hard" water you really do not want to drink de-mineralized water Doing so can cause mineral deficiencies and the effect on your long term health is largely unknown.
The best filters for home use balance the mineral content by using an ion exchange system. Multi-stage home water filters can provide clean healthful water to every faucet in your home. Just remember to do your homework, before you buy.
This is a scenario that none of us wants to deal with but most of us will be forced to over the course of our lives. What do we do when our water doesn't descend from the tap clear-but is yellow or red or brown?
Fortunately, there is probably an easy explanation for some of these water discoloration problems. According to MassDEP (the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection), brown, red, orange and yellow water can usually be attributed to rust-be it rust in the water main or the pipes in the building in which you reside.
The various colors are usually attributed to states of chemical oxidation of the iron and by the concentrations of rust in the water, according to MassDEP. And, according to the government agency, "the discolored water is not a health threat." Which is a huge relief to homeowners and apartment dwellers who wonder how long they have been drinking tainted water.
To address the problem, according to MassDEP, it's important to determine whether the problem is in your building or with the city/town water supply. This can be done by following some easy steps, such as determining if the water clears after it has run for a few minutes or if the problem occurs at only one or two faucets in the house, among several other steps. By determining the source of the problem, the solution can be quick to follow.
So while yellow or brown water can look disgusting and can lead one to believe it's certainly a health risk, organizations like the MassDEP argue that rust-related problems like this are not a threat to citizens' health.
Homemade Water Filter - Video Response On YouTube.
This is a field test of a very simple and inexpensive homemade water filter setup made from a recycled coffee creamer container, a Brita water filter and one 2 inch rubber O-ring. The setting for this test is beautiful Norway Lake located inside Puzzle Lake Provincial Park, Canada. Please rate this video. Thanks for watching! When you are drinking water you expect it to be safe and ready to drink all the time. However, if you live in an older home you might know that they used to use lead in the pipes. If that is your case then you could have lead in water that you are showering in or possibly even drinking. However, you will want to know the benefits of using a filter system to help you out in getting rid of that.
One benefit is that these are fairly inexpensive compared to replacing all of your pipes. If you see that your pipes are made out of this material you might have to replace them all, but you might be able to get away with just putting in a filter. If you have to use a filter you will want to compare the cost of replacing your pipes versus that of getting a filter for your entire home.
Something else that you are going to enjoy is that if you have to replace any of the filters they are easy to do on your own. For the most part these filters are going to need to have cartridges changed out over time and that is usually easy enough for you to do it on your own without the help of a professional.
Another benefit that your going to like is you can pick these up at most stores. Something else that your going to like is you can get these at many of the various stores that you shop in already. So rather than having to look at special stores or plumbing supply stores you could find these at the local retail store.
You could find that the taste of the water will improve. The taste of your water could improve drastically compared to what you are used to drinking. So you could find that you might end up drinking more water than what you usually do. So then you could improve your health by drinking more water than what you used to.
Being able to drink water is a nice thing that many people enjoy being able to do. However, they might run into the problem of not knowing that they have lead in water, but if you live in an older home you will want to check that out. If you use a filter though you are going to find that it is normally easy to remove from your water that you drink or bathe in with the filters.
"TALUS" by Nutnfancy ('Summer Snow' Actual Final Part) On YouTube.
The Summer Snow adventure sadly comes to an end but not until some more adventure ensues. Our hike out continues, crossing streams, snow casms, boulders, talus fields, fallen timber areas, and lots of snow and mud. The scenery continues as well and it was majestic. But the hike is tough, having taken a different route out that added about 3.5 miles to the route...all with no trail. Lots of snow drifts still covered it. The wind kicks up too, gusting to 30+ mph. We press on and I decide to stop at the base of a huge talus slope for a rest break. We heat up some lunch and filter some water out of a fresh glacial water source (awesome water!). LastSuspect has some fun boulder climbing while Allie and I do the work (standard). An osprey hunts the lake not far away and we bid farewell to the lake as we make our way upslope to re-intercept the trail. I break through a snow bank into a hidden creek, getting soaked. We are careful not to sprain an ankle or break a leg in this treacherous section. Pressing on through the many fallen trees and obstacles, we reach the open trail (and check out some other beautiful glacier lakes nearby too). Finally we are rewarded with some downhill, on-trail hiking...piece of cake but lengthy. Allie is a great companion all through it all and we love having her along. And yes, despite my best efforts, she throws another shoe to be lost forever. We grab out cached supplies on the way down and call the adventure complete. This was an awesome ...

Innovate or Die - Aquaduct: Mobile Filtration Vehicle On YouTube.
The Aquaduct is pedal powered vehicle that transports, filters, and stores water for the developing world. A peristaltic pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a filter, to a smaller clean tank. The clean tank is removable and closed for contamination-free home storage and use. A clutch engages and disengages the drive belt from the pedal crank, enabling the rider to filter the water while traveling or while stationary. The Aquaduct is the winning entry in the Innovate or Die contest put on by Google and Specialized. The contest challenge was to build a pedal powered machine that has environmental impact. How to alter an bend stop (shut-off valve) Video Clips.
Revised version to fix previous version with YouTube upload errors in audio quality. For more free plumbing Do-it-yourself information go to DIYplumbingAdvice.com An angle stop is the shut-off valve found under every kitchen and bath sink, toilet, etc. Many commonly installed models are of mediocre quality and do not function well over a long period of time. Replacement to a high quality model ensures that the water to the installation can be completely shut off when required. In this video, Greg Chick, demonstrates how to remove and replace a single port angle stop with a dual port model, in preparation for the installation of an under-sink filter system. The dual port model allows the sink faucet and water supply to the filter (and associated spigot) to be shut off separately, thereby allowing the servicing of one without disabling the other.
